Walter P. Crews

Walter Preston Crews was born Friday, November 30, 1956 in Amityville, NY to the late Benjamin and Dorothy Crews. He departed this life on Thursday, June 8, 2017. Walter was the third oldest of five children, two of which preceded him in death, Benjamin Lewis Crews III (Binky) and Arnold Rene Crews.

Walter was educated in the Amityville School District and also attended Garden State Academy in NJ where he graduated in 1974. Walter enlisted in the Navy where he worked in the Department of Finance & Accounting. After leaving the Navy, he furthered his career as a civilian as a Medical Clerical Assistant in Finance & Accounting for Elmhurst Medical Center, NY. He was employed there for 30 years until his passing.

As a young child Walter spent time with his grandparents in Oxford, NC. He often reminisced about all of the valuable lessons he learned from them including how to cook. Walter was an excellent cook and was known for his famous fried chicken which he would prepare for family and church functions. He found joy in sharing his food and recipes with friends and family.

Walter was baptized on October 4, 2008 by Bishop Robert L. Williams and later joined the Laodicea Church, Pastor Wayne Daniels, Sr., where he remained a member until his passing. Walter loved to sing and was known for belting out his favorite songs in service.

Walter was a very humorous person who loved to laugh and tell funny stories He could remember the smallest details from something that happened years ago and would act out the story as he known to be a big tease. He will greatly be missed.

Walter leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 6 years Elizabeth; two brothers, Gerald (Julia) of Greensboro, NC and Alvin of Amityville, NY; one aunt, Hazel Bean of Amityville, NY; cousin Lenny Clifford, who was like a brother and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great aunts and friends.
