Obituary
Shirley Ann Pack was born in Bessemer, Alabama on February 24, 1950 to Virginia Pack and Jessie Little. Shirley graduated from Abram High School, in Tampa, Florida in June of 1968.
At the age of 20 Shirley moved to Long Island, New York. In 1972 she began her life long career supervising the mentally challenged and disabled at Long Island Development Center in Melville, NY, until she retired in March of 2006. She remained on roster where she would continue to work part-time until April, 30, 2015. She simultaneously worked for United Cerebral Palsy from February 1987- December 2012 while employed by the State.
She met Roosevelt Pernell Sr. in December 1975, and wed in September 14, 1978, where they would reside and later purchase a home in Central Islip, NY. Their daughters Katrina Nicole Pernell, and Sheila Pack preceded her in death.
In 2002 Shirley confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and joined Farmingdale First Baptist Church of North Amityville under the former leadership of Rev. James Harris. Shirley was a faithful, hardworking, and a dedicated member who served in various Ministry departments: Financial Secretary, Hospitality Committee, and Youth Sunday School teacher under the new leadership of Rev. Kevin Crawford.
Shirley was an avid Bingo Player and enjoyed her weekly games with her closest friends, whether locally or out of state. However more than she enjoyed Bingo she LOVED her FAMILY MORE and was the Epitome of a Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and if you were lucky a Loyal, Genuine, and Trustworthy Friend. Her favorite saying was “IF YOU’RE GOING TO DO SOMETHING DON’T HALF DO IT”
