Robert Carey Obituary

 

Robert George Carey was born in Brooklyn NY on September 9th, 1943 at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. To the proud parents of Robert Carey and Lillian Summons.

Robert and his family relocated to Wyandanch, NY at the early age of 1 years old. Where they would make this their permanent home.

Robert had many nick names he was affectionately called “Bobby” by his sister Patricia. To everyone else who knew him he was known as “Bob, Fox or Carey”. Robert was truly loved by anyone he came in contact with.

Robert attended the Wyandanch School District, while in school he met and became great friends with Danny Lake, Kenny Robinson, Peppi, Ronald Bennette, Ben Phinizy, Butch Wiley, Butch Johnson and Ralph Reynolds. As well as the love of his life Janice Laverne Godwin.

In 1963 Robert Graduated from Wyandanch memorial high school. In June of 1965 he married his high school sweetheart Janice Laverne Godwin. From this union they had three beautiful children Robert Carey Jr., Kim Carey & Gina Carey.

In 1966 Robert Joined the Army National Guard and became a part of the 225th Engineer Brigade also known as a combat heavy engineer brigade. It is one of the largest engineer formations in the United States Army National Guard. It was here he proudly served in the Vietnam War. In 1968 Robert received his Purple Heart and was Honorably Discharged.

Robert loved to cook, and when he did he made sure to use every pot in the kitchen. Upon returning home he attended Culinary school. Once completed Robert went to work for the New York phone company for many years. Before moving to Atlanta and working at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport as a transportation driver.

If you knew Robert you knew he loved to be on the water fishing, playing cards & talking junk.

In 2007 Robert moved back to NY to live with his daughter Gina Brown. Due to illness he went to live at the Northport VA Nursing center CLC1where he loved the people who took great care of him until his last days.

Robert joins in heaven his parents Robert & Lillian. His Wife Janice Carey; Son; Robert Jr; Brother in Law: Milton. He leaves to celebrate his life & legacy 2 Daughters: Kim Carey, Gina Brown (Sunny Brown). 1 Sister: Patricia Grant;1 Niece: Daenna Branch; 4 Grandchildren; Hakeem, Michael, Shakeitha & Melijah . 6 Great Grandchildren: Jaheem, Keilani, Sarahji , Taedyn, Khloe & Mahagani.; a host of very close friends & family.
