Obituary

Michel C. Guerrier, Jr. 34 years old, born in Manhattan, New York to Michel, Sr. and Judith Guerrier. He was a loving husband, father, brother, son, sailor, soldier, biker, friend and hero. These words fail to adequately describe who Michel Carrol Guerrier, Jr. was.

He was born the 4th of 5 children. “Little Michel,” as he was known, was an inquisitive kid. His younger sister Keasha, would break things and Michel would put things back together. He was a skilled mechanic at a young age, helping his father fix the various cars stacked in the driveway. As he grew up, Michel had an aptitude for math and engineering. He earned a scholarship to Stony Brook to work on fiber optic technology. School was too slow for Michel. He eventually found his way to the Navy. He matured quickly after marriage and two beautiful kids. He grew as a man and rose to the rank of Petty Officer First Class.

Michel was a bright light. Covered in tattoos and muscles, his appearance belied his caring heart. Those that knew him, knew that he would give you the shirt off his back- regardless of the fact that two normal sized people could fit in that shirt. He made friends on every corner of the earth. He cared for his kids Malik and Makaila.  He built a home and a life with his wife Lafayvette. He helped build his bike club bridging the New York and Virginia chapters. And he served his country as a member of the strongest naval force on earth.

Michel lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed snowboarding and scuba diving. He loved to dance and work on cars. He loved beating his son and brother in video games and lifting heavy things. He served as an amazing example of what a true friend should be. His heart was too big for even his oversized frame.

Michel is survived by his loving wife, his children, foster children, mother, father, brothers, sisters additional family and friends. He will forever be remembered by many. A day will not pass where we do not hurt because of his absence. He would want us to celebrate his life and share his love with everyone around us. That is his legacy. Career

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Michel C. Guerrier Jr. enlisted in the Navy on July 31, 2006, as Sonar Technician (Surface). Following his completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to STG “A” school. While in Great Lakes, he was promoted to the rank of pretty officer third class. After “A” school he reported to USS Cole (DDG 67), homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, on April 11, 2008.

While onboard USS Cole (DDG 67), he was promoted to the rank of petty officer second class and he became the lead Integrated Tactical Towed Array Sonar System (ITASS) operator.  He completed two operational deployments aboard Cole and was elected as the ship’s Junior Sailor of the year.

Petty Officer Guerrier reported to Commander, Submarine Pacific Navy Data Center Detachment, Okinawa, Japan, in November 19,2012. On this tour he was awarded Sailor of the Quarter, Third Quarter and he also was promoted to the rank of petty officer first class. After completion of his shore tour, he received orders to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69)(Ike), homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. In route to his second sea tour, he reported to Training Support Center, San Diego, California, where he obtained the Navy Enlisted Classification as an Advanced Acoustic Analysis Technician.

On April 15, 2016, he reported to Ike and was assigned to operation department as the leading petty officer. He immediately deployed with Ike to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. He later became the leading petty officer of the command’s Rehabilitation Team during the 2017 Planned Increment Availability. He was awarded operations department Sailor of the Quarter, First Quarter.

Petty Officer Guerrier Jr, is qualified in Enlisted Surface Warfare, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Integrated Undersea Surveillance, Enlisted. His awards include a navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, Petty Officer 1st Class Michel Carroll Guerrier Jr. of Brooklyn, New York entered peacefully into eternal life. He was the loving husband of Lafetta Guerrier; devoted father of Malik and Makalia. He is survived by his mother, father and a host of family and friends.
