Michael Smith Obituary

Michael James Smith, son of the late Reverend William James Smith and Annie L. Smith, was born January 28, 1951 in Queens, New York. He departed this life on November 19, 2021 in Concord, North Carolina.

 

Michael grew up and was educated in the Brooklyn School system. He further went on to study Culinary at the Food and Maritime Trades Vocational High School in New York. Shortly after graduating, he met and married Barbara Ann Logan. To this union was born three sons.

 

Michael joined the New York City Board of Education, where he supervised the School Task Force Team. He served seventeen years with the Board of Education before moving to Long Island and joining Longwood Central School District, in Middle Island, New York. He retired after 10 years of service on the Maintenance Team.

 

He was a member of the Little Zion Temple Church of God in Christ Church in Queens, New York, and later attended Shaw Temple AME Zion Church and Bell AME Zion Church in Long Island, New York.

 

Michael enjoyed people as well as being the life of the party to family, friends and anyone he met. He was also helpful to anyone who needed a helping hand. His favorite pastimes were fishing and cooking, and he indeed was a good cook.

 

Michael is preceded in death by his sons, Antoine and Lamont.

 

Michael leaves to mourn, his son, William; to brothers, three sisters; one sister- in- law; an aunt; five nieces; two nephews; two great nieces; four great nephews; a friend Edith and a host of cousins, family and friends.
