Mary Elizabeth Thorne was born on August 3, 1931 in Lottsburg, Virginia to the late Herbert E. And Pearl L. Page. She was the third child of nine children. Preceding her in death was her husband, William “Bill” Thorne and her four siblings Robert Page, Barbara Redmond, Warren Page, and Rosie Ann Keeve.
At an early age, Mary was baptized at Zion Baptist Church of Lottsburg. She attended the historic Holley Graded School and graduated from the Julius Rosenwald High School in Reedville, Virginia. On August 5, 1957, in Spartanburg, South Carolina she married the love of her life William “Bill” Thorne. After moving to New York, Mary joined Holy Trinity Baptist Church where she served as an usher and assistant secretary.
Later, she was instrumental in the organizing of Mount Clear Baptist Church (Amityville, New York); where she served in multiple positions during her life (usher, secretary, treasurer, and trustee) until she became ill. Mary worked at Tape Switch Inc. (Farmingdale, New York) and Box Crafters (Amityville, New. York).
She leaves to cherish her memory: (two brothers) Henry W. Page of Lottsburg, Virginia and Grayson Page of Wyandanch, New York; (two sisters) Betty L. Page of Wyandanch, New York and Margie Holden of Elkton, Maryland; nine nieces and nephews, respectively; and a host of great nieces and nephews; 1 great-great niece; and 5 God-children.
