Mary Bellinger Obituary

Obituary

Deacon Mary B. (Lewis) Bellinger was born on June 24,1934 in Arista, West Virginia, the eleventh of fifteen children to the late Deacon William Lewis, Sr. and Mary Woodson Lewis. She transitioned to eternal rest on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, MD.

Growing up in a God-fearing home, Mary heard the Word of God and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She joined the Union Baptist Church in Bluefield, West Virginia, where she was an active member until moving to New York as a young adult.

Upon her arrival in New York, Mary worked in various jobs. Mary began a career at New Brunswick Hospital as a nurse’s aid for twenty-three years until she retired due to illness.

In 1982, Mary married Charles Bellinger and often said that “Charlie” was the love of her life. Happily married for 24 years, their union was filled with faith, love and laughter until Charlie’s passing. While there were no biological children from this union, God blessed her with Godchildren that were heaven sent after Charlie’s death.

In 1990, Mary joined St. John Baptist Church, where she served as an Assistant Superintendent and Teacher of Sunday School. Later, she united with Christian Life Center Church, where Mary was a faithful member until she relocated to Maryland.

Mary resided in Amityville, NY, for many years and cultivated many relationships living there. She was a wise, witty, fun-loving person and left a positive lasting impression wherever she went. Mary loved to travel, shop, watch westerns, and most importantly, she loved studying the Word of God. She was a scholar in playing Bible Trivia; although many tried to take the title, she remained the family’s Bible Trivia Champion! Mary fought the good fight of faith and finished her course. She said, “I have lived a full, good life.”

Mary will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered by her two brothers, one sister, seven Godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bellinger.
