Obituary
Lonnie P. Batchelor was born in Savannah, Georgia on June 12, 1926. He was the second child of Lonnie Batchelor and Leora Godbee. On the afternoon of Monday, February 5, 2018 Lonnie passed away at the East Neck Nursing Home in the town of West Babylon, NY.
Lonnie graduated from Beach High School, in Savannah, Georgia, Class of 1945. He was drafted into the United States Navy, and was stationed in Banning, California, during World War II.
After leaving the service, Lonnie attended Camp School of Tailoring in Newark, NJ, where he received a certificate in Custom Tailoring. Lonnie then came to New York, where he met and married Fannie Williams in 1951. They were blessed with two sons, Ronald Randy Batchelor and Monte Glenn Batchelor, while living in Brooklyn, NY.
The family then moved to Wyandanch, NY, where he helped build their custom home. Lonnie worked at Richland Machinery, in Farmingdale, NY, for about 15 years. Lonnie had a strong sense of community and served as a Trustee on the Board of Education for the Wyandanch Union Free School District from 1975 thru 1984.
Lonnie was an avid fan of the game of golf and became a lifetime member of the United States Golf Association. He also LOVED jazz, especially Joe Williams and John Coltrane.
Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory his wife, two sons, and two sisters, he also leaves five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all loved him dearly.
