Larry Garrett Obituary

Larry Garrett (“LG”) was born on July 14th, 1934, in Fries, Virginia. He relocated to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he attended Atlantic City high school as a celebrated football star. Larry went on to attend St. Augustine College in North Carolina, which led to his decision to join the Air Force and pursue a career as an Air Traffic Controller. This responsibility would require great focus, discipline and commitment; Larry would proudly carry out his role at MacArthur Airport control center in Islip, New York for 16 years.

Larry would later go on to settle in North Babylon, New York and receive community recognition for his dedication to healing, uplifting, and facilitating a safe and prosperous neighborhood. Many would recognize him most for the well-respected family business known as Larry’s Discount.

Alongside his commitment to service, “Buddy,” as his family and friends fondly referred to him, was committed to lighting up any room he entered. His warm-hearted spirit and humorous nature was a dose of healing medicine to the soul.

Some of his favorite pastimes included fishing and telling jokes to anyone who’d listen. If you knew “Buddy,” you knew a good time; you knew a good man.

Larry is survived by his wife Laverne, son Jeffrey, and daughter Rosalind. He joins his son Brian, in heaven. He’s also survived by two brothers: Charles (Augusta) and Andy, as well as his sister Joyce. He joins his sister Anne and brother John in heaven. In addition, Larry leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Ashlee, Brianne, Myles, Rachel, David, Camryn and Jayden, a multitude of loving nieces and nephews, as well as a community of lives that he has touched.

It is with deep gratitude that we can say “Buddy” transitioned with his sweet, uplifting soul intact. Never was there a time we could be near him and not be moved by his infectious energy, and never will there be a time we remember him without a welcoming smile.

Larry will be missed, but he will forever be celebrated.
