Kim Leta Winfrey Obituary

Obituary

On Monday, July 29, 2020, Kim L. Winfrey, passed away at the age of 62 in Rockaway Park, New York. She is the beautiful daughter of Ms. Helen Rakestraw, sister of Theresa Winfrey, loving mother of Jevon Thompson, and cousin to many dear family members, Kim was born on July 8, 1957 in Queens, NY, to Helen Rakestraw and Frederick Powell. She graduated from Flushing High School, attended the SUNY College at Old Westbury, and completed a medical assistant program from the Allen School of Health Sciences in Jamaica, NY. During her life journey, she met Equilla Thompson and gave birth to their son, Jevon Thompson.

Anyone that knows Kim understood that she was a serene, humorous, and loving person with a captivating smile, but was mentally and physically tough. Earlier in life, Kim practiced Shotokan karate and competed in sparring tournaments. She enjoyed listening to Michael Jackson songs and loved watching movies to include the Sound of Music, which was one of her favorite classics. Later in life, Kim became an employee with The United States Postal Service for over twenty years and happily retired with smiles. In her retirement years, she enjoyed riding her bicycle on the boardwalk in the Rockaways and spending time with her four grandchildren in Pennsylvania.

Most of all, she dedicated her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is now in glory.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Frederick and her partner, Equilla. She is survived by her mother, her sister, her son and daughter-in-law, her four grandchildren, and several cousins, friends, coworkers and acquaintances.
