Johnnie Mae Boyce Obituary

Johnnie Mae Richardson Boyce, daughter of the late John C. Richardson and Eartha Jamison Richardson was born in Bowman, South Carolina on February 24, 1947. She was the second child born out of three. She resided in Bowman and attended the Bethune Memorial High School where she graduated in May of 1965.

 

While residing in Bowman she sent her brother Henry to Florida and paid for his college education. Also during this time, she helped her older brother Nathaniel Jamison who was honorably discharged from the Air Force and resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

Shortly after, she relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.She later moved to New York and began working for the state.Her first residency was at the Suffolk County Developmental Center where she met the love of her life,Major Boyce. Johnnie and Major were married in1981. From this union three beautiful children were born, Sherwin (Marquis), Derek ("D"), and Jason (Jay Rich). With Johnnie having such a big heart,the group was not complete without sister,Ruby Boyce (Shawty Red).

 

Johnnie continued to attend college and take courses. She went to Suffolk County Community College and continued helping people when and wherever she could. She was employed at Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center in Brentwood, New York, Kings Park Psychiatric Center and Suffolk County Developmental Center. She provided home care to individuals and took care of many.She retired from New York State In 2004.

 

She enjoyed cooking,cleaning and watching movies. She loved to party and socialize. She also enjoyed traveling. Her most important role was taking care of her children and her husband. She was a lion when it came to her family, she did not play!

 

Johnnie attended Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Amityville, New York and was very devoted to her community and various charities.

 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband,Major; three sons, Sherwin, Derek and Jason; one daughter, Ruby, all From New York; five grandchildren, Marquis, Shantel, Wesley, Savanah and Jayllion;one great-grandchild; two sister-in-laws, Betty of Maryland and Delores of Pennsylvania; one brother-in-law, William of North Carolina;four nephews, Laron, Terrell, and Eric, from Maryland and Nathaniel, from Pennsylvania; two nieces, Kimberly from Pennsylvania and Shelia From Maryland; a host of great-nephews, great great-nephews, great-nieces, great great-nieces, cousins and friends.She loved, cared for and cherished everyone

 

At the family's request, please feel free to honor Mrs. Johnnie Mae by wearing any shade of blue. Any kind of blue against white. This was her favorite color, and we know she has gone home to be in heavens.
