Iona Furbush

Obituary

Iona Mae Furbush was born February 2, 1936 in Mount Meigs Alabama to the late Mr. John D. Murdock and Mrs. Lillie M. Murdock. Iona accepted Christ at an early age at St. Peters Baptist church in Bessemer Alabama. Iona completed her education in Bessemer Alabama school systems before relocating.

As a young woman Iona moved to Long Island, New York. She had a career in the health field at Brunswick hospital in Amityville, NY until she retired in September 1989. Iona was married to James W. Furbush. From that union came six children.

Iona leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, one son and two son-in-laws. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends

In addiction to her maternal children and family she was a maternal figure to many whom Iona openly welcomed into her home, until her home going on Monday, January 15, 2018
