Herbert Collins
Herbert was a devoted father and grandfather who dedicated his life to the growth and development of his family. His home was always a haven of warmth and welcome, not only for his immediate family but also for numerous friends and extended family.
Herbert Collins was born on October 14, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland the second child of the late Leon and Margaret Collins. He was married on August 20, 1960 to Jean Collins. This beautiful union lasted 46 years until his beloved Jeans death in 2006.
Herbert was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Copiague NY where he faithfully attended services and was a member of the choir. He also attended Rush Temple A.M.E. Zion church for many years with his late wife Jean. His greatest joys were centered around his family and friends. He loved traveling, playing with his grandchildren, socializing at the senior center, singing and dancing.
At the age of 10, Herbert found his life’s calling after seeing the name “Herb’s Jewelry” on a sign in Harlem. He trained and became a Master Jeweler and had a successful career for more than 60 years. He loved creating beautiful custom pieces of jewelry for clients, friends and family. He was the founder and owner of Herb Collins Jewelry and later HLC Jewelry Masters.
His presence will be deeply missed by his children, Laurie and Darren Collins; daughter-in-law, Patrice Jean; four grandchildren, Juliette Bush, Jacquee Bush-Mason, Scarlett Collins and Darren Collins Jr.; grandson-in-law, Desmond Mason; siblings, Bernard, Donald, Richard, Sandra and Janice; brother-in-law, Charles Franklin; sisters-in-law, Chris, Jackie, Yvonne, Anne, Malinda and Annibelle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives and friends.
