Obituary
Henry Lee Betton, 66, of New York, died September 6, 2017, at his Wyandanch
home. Henry was born on December 18, 1950 in Pritchard, Alabama to the late
Wesley Sledge Jr. and Rosie Lee Thornton-Betton. Henry was one of seven children.
Wallace Betton, Vesta Betton, James Knight and Alfred Betton are his
siblings that preceded him in death Unfortunately, Henry had one grandson Ja’Hari
Nishon Lee Hyman and one great granddaughter Kayla M. Prince, who preceded him
in death. His living siblings are Johnny F.(Ursula) Betton of Spring, Texas and
Wanda J. Haines of North Babylon, New York.
As a preteen, Henry moved to The Bronx, NY where he attended P.S. 55 Junior High
School. Later he attended Morris High School. Henry spent the majority of his
professional career as an entrepreneur (Henry’s Trucking). He was a hard worker and
a good provider.
As the avid card player that he was, he was not very fond of losing, especially at
Spades and 5,000. He really enjoyed being with family and family really enjoyed him
back. He was always really for a cookout, he just knew he was the best cook. After
beating his first bout with Cancer in 2003, Henry made it his business to travel with
his loved ones every year. He said “life was too short and he wasn’t going let it pass
him by”. Henry also liked watching Basketball, Football and Boxing on Television
and playing the Wii.
Henry’s long spiritual journey led him to his final church home at Macedonia SDA
Church in Wyandanch, NY. Although he didn’t hold a position at Macedonia, He was
a Deacon at Mt Calvary SDA Church in Salem, NJ. He loved the Lord, after church
on Sabbath he would always ask his family what they had learned or thought about
the sermon. We would have church all over again. He also really loved listening to
Gospel Music, one of his favorite songs was God’s Grace by Trinity 5:7. Henry
would always contribute fresh fruits and vegetables to every Family Life special day.
On September 6, 2017, Henry closed his eyes in rest awaiting Christ’s return.

and loving wife of 24 years; Children: Evanda Michelle (Larry) Caldwell-Aaron,
