Georganna Pitts Thompkins, the twelfth and last surviving member of seventeen children, was born on February 28, 1927 to the late Chauncey O. and Adeline Douglas Pitts, in Salem, New Jersey. A sweet-tempered godly child, Georganna gave her heart to Jesus at the age of twelve and remained active in Sunday School, YPCA, youth conventions and other youth events as a member of Ephesus Pentecostal Church of Mt. Sinai in Salem, New Jersey.
Indeed it was at a youth convention where she meant and fell in love with a young Raymond Thompkins whose father was a pastor in Amityville, New York. Although her parents hated to see her go, Georganna and Raymond were married on November 12, 1946 while Raymond was in the military. They moved to Amityville and remained there until the Lord called him home after fifty-five years of marriage. The couple worked diligently in and outside of the church. Georganna held several positions at Glorious Tabernacle Church including Pastor's Aide Chairperson, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Evangelist. As parents of four children, Georganna thought it necessary for the family to be in church through the week and often all day on Sunday. In conjunction to working in the church the couple held full time jobs while persuing and earning bachelor's and master's degrees in education, from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Georganna, an educator, also taught in the Amityville Public Schools.
In 1976, Mother Georganna Thompkins co-founded, along with the late Bishop Raymond Thompkins, St. Paul's Christian Tabernacle in Amityville, NY. There. the true unadulterated gospel was preached, winning souls for the kingdom. After mother became a member of Perfecting Faith Church she never lost her zeal to attend services and do all that she was able to do to further the goal of winning souls for Christ. If pastor asked for any type of assistance, mother would immediately respond. Despite failing health, as a member of Mother's Board, mother was still interested in whatever the board planned and implemented.
Mother's unconditional love for her family and concern for the souls of others are remarkable traits. She especially derived great pleasure in spending time with family in Amityville and with loved ones in New Jersey. From the oldest to the youngest, she was always there with a listening ear, warm smile and kind word. She chose to look for the good in people and encouraged everyone with the Word of God. Mother exemplified what it meant to be a true Christian. Her ceaseless mission to always put God first in everything she did was immeasurable. Even while in the hospital, when staff asked how she was doing, her response was "I'm fine, praise the Lord. How are you?" We will always remember her spoken and written motto, "Go With God; He Never Fails"
