Frank C. Powell
Frank (Pop) Powell was born on February 15th, 1932 to the late Rubena Stanton in Kingston, Jamaica West Indies. Pop was raised in Jamaica for the first 14 years of his life. After this, Frank and his mother would relocate to America. In America, Frank received some College Schooling and later served in the United States Armed Forces in 1952 at Fort Carson, Colorado. Frank was Honorably Discharged from the Armed Forces in 1955.
After fighting for our country, Frank then returned to New York. Here, he would begin working at the United States Postal Service in Manhattan. As Frank worked as a Postal Clerk, he would write numerous letters to his soon to be wife, Gloria Sinclair, who resided in Jamaica, West Indies. They corresponded with one another for some years, until Gloria Sinclair came to New York to visit. Shortly after her arrival to New York, she would marry the late Frank Powell on June 30th, 1963. Frank and Gloria were blessed with a loving and successful marriage for 54 years.
Out of the beautiful union of Frank and Gloria; they would raise up 3 Sons. The Eldest Gary White (in which Pop willingly assumed the role of becoming his Father), Collin Powell and Troy Powell. Frank was a Church going man who loved the Lord. He was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Queens, New York. Pop enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved to walk everywhere. He was a hard working family man. He worked at The U.S. Postal Service for a grand total of 35 years before retiring in 1996.
Frank and Gloria Powell later moved to Florida in 2000, in order to aide a Family Member. They would return to New York just 10 years later to reside with their son, Troy Powell, and his caring wife, Rosalyn Powell. While in New York, our Pop would become known as “Pop” to the loving congregation at the Fellowship Baptist Church of Wyandanch, New York. Frank lived a full life
surrounded by loving family members and friends. God saw fit to give Pop rest and called him home to glory on July 22, 2017 after a brief illness.
Frank leaves behind not only his legacy, but his proud lineage of family members as well. His loving wife of 54 years, Gloria Powell, three sons: Gary White (Jamaica, West Indies), Collin Powell (Orange Park, Florida) and Troy Powell (Queens, New York). Two daughters in law: Penny Powell and Rosalyn Powell. Six grandchildren: Shaniece Powell, Lorraine White, Caleb Powell, Tyrel Powell, Rhamar White, and Sonjay-Ari White. He also has one great grandchild, Christian. In addition to his loving family, Frank leaves a host of family members and friends to mourn his loss.
Frank was a kind, loving and quiet-spirited man. He was a loving husband, father, stepfather, father-in-law and grandfather. He loved to read his Bible daily. He loved dancing alongside his lovely wife and listening to music, as they enjoyed one another’s company. Frank was truly a friend to all who knew him. Pop loved his family and his life. Most of all, Frank was a child of God! He will be sorely missed by all.
