Frances Brown

Obituary

Frances Brown was born on February 24, 1924 to Veda Jennings. She was raised in City of Pamplin in Appomattox Virginia by her Grand Parents Hudson and Ada Jennings. She grew up on the farm that was owned by the Jennings along Rt. 460. Hudson was also a Pastor so Frances grew up in a spiritual household.

When Frances turned 18 she moved up north and took on a job as a nanny in Douglaston. NY. It wasn’t long before she met her lifelong friend Betty Filmore. In the course of their friendship they and their husbands raised their families together. To their friends they were known as the ‘Golden Girls’.

With her husband Tennyson Brown, Frances moved their family to Jamaica Queens, NY. Together they had 8 children Betty Keith Francine, Sandrine, Tennyson Jr., Daniel and Donna. She was a housewife and a stay at home mom who enjoyed taking care of family. Frances children feel as though they were blessed with 2 sets of parents with Frances and Tennyson as well as Betty and James Filmore. Their families were inseparable.

One of Frances favorite things to do was to take the bus to Atlantic City with ‘Miss’ Betty. She also enjoyed the occasional fishing trip with her husband. They often caught a fishing bout out of Freeport, Long Island. Being very social, she enjoyed going out dancing with her husband. Whenever they could they’d catch up with relatives and friends at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem. Frances enjoyed a very full life.

In her later years Frances was lovingly cared for by her sons Danny and Tennyson Jr. She died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning March 6, 2018.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Tennyson Brown; her daughter Betty Walters and sons Keith and Anthony Brown.

She leaves to mourn her passing five children; five Grandchildren; two Great Granddaughters; and one Great Great Granddaughter. She also leaves behind her children’s spouses, many relatives and friends.
