Elaine Felton Obituary

Elaine D. Felton of Bay Shore, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the age of 71. She was a devoted daughter, loving sister, cherished aunt and cousin, loyal friend, and a deeply valued member of her church and the communities she served throughout her life.

Elaine was born at Brooklyn Hospital and raised in Flushing, Queens. Affectionately known as “Lane Lane,” she was full of vigor, warmth, and life. A true Cancer in spirit, Elaine embodied emotional sensitivity, strong intuition, nurturing instincts, and fierce loyalty to those she loved. Her compassion and steadfast presence left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.

Elaine earned her Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from Queens College in 1977. She went on to have a distinguished career in public service, spending nearly 20 years with New York State Parks and Recreation, where she served as Deputy Commissioner for the Town of Babylon. Her dedication, leadership, and integrity were evident in all she did. She later worked for more than a decade as a customer service representative with the Suffolk Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation, where she continued to serve others with patience, kindness, and professionalism.

Elaine was a proud member and former volunteer of the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Queens, where her faith was not only professed but lived. She served faithfully, offering her time, talents, and heart in service to God and others. Her life reflected the words of Scripture: “Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14).

An avid enthusiast and supporter of culture, music, and the arts, Elaine embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved basketball, volleyball, and skiing, and found great peace and happiness at the beach—especially at Jones Beach and Fire Island—where she built a cherished community of lifelong family and friends. These places held laughter, fellowship, and countless memories that will be forever treasured.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Louise Felton and James A. Felton Sr.; her adopted brothers, Moses and Josué; and her adopted sister, Althea.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Deborah A. Felton of upstate New York; her brothers, James A. Felton Jr. and William Felton of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will continue to carry her memory forward. Her legacy of love, faith, and service lives on through them.

A public memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Queens, on February 15 at 2:00 p.m. A private memorial for family and close friends will be held on April 11 (location to be announced).
