Edward A Wheby was born in Kingston, Jamaica to the proud parents of Roy & Mary Wheby on November 1, 1937. He was the first of 4 children.
Edward attended school and received his high school diploma in his home town. There he also learned about auto mechanics under his father’s tutelage. He had a knack for repairing anything with a motor.
Edward found love in his early 20’s and had two sons, Victor and Anthony with Joyce Plummer. Years later he had a daughter Paula with Rema (Peggy) Walker. In the mid 60’s he met his future wife, Rosa through a mutual friend. She was from New York and he decided to start a life in America with her. They were married June 28, 1968. They had one child together, Edward in 1971.
Edward found work in various auto shops, alongside his friend Stan Malcom, who also left Jamaica around the same time. They eventually found their work home at Hempstead Lincoln Mercury/Saab. Edward was a foreign car specialist and if something was wrong with your Saab, he was the answer. He was a decorated master technician. Saab flew him and his wife to Colorado along with the country’s other top technicians to celebrate them.
When his wife passed away in 2010, Edward found comfort in joining the church that she was a long time member of, Shaw Temple AME Zion church in Amityville.
Edward’s passion was cars. He loved music and movies and a well-kept lawn. He was the neighborhood mechanic to many and will be missed by many. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving children: Victor, Anthony, Paula and Edward, his sister Gloria and brother Owen. 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
