Edward Sonds Obituary

Edwards Sonds Sr. (nickname Chocolate Chip) was born on January 29, 1941 in Meadowbrook Hospital in
East Meadow, New York to the late Edna and Paul Sonds and was raised in South Jamaica.

Edward graduated from Copiague High School. He had a love for music and enjoyed listening to old
school music. In 1957, he recorded an album with Acme Records called Walking the Streets Alone where
he sang second tenor and wrote the lyrics to the song Owee Nellie.

Edward worked in a cleaners for twenty-five years as a presser. He also worked part-time as a
custodian at Deauville Gardens Elementary School. He held various positions at Costco such as
cashier, security, membership, and marketing until his retirement in 2014 after twenty-five years of
service.

In 1958, he married Pauline Humphrey who preceded him in death.

Edward was living proof that a way to a man's heart was through his stomach when he met his
beloved companion Edna at a relative's home. Edna offered to cook him some chicken wings and
the rest was history. They shared a special bond for over twenty years. The Sonds and Squires
families became a blended family and created beautiful memories together. Edward and Fana
traveled extensively and were inseparable until her passing. He deeply missed her.
Edward loved spending time with family. He was affectionately called Granddaddy by his
grandchildren and Uncle Sonds by his nieces and nephews. Everyone looked forward to his
presence at family gatherings. He was a sharp dresser and meticulous about his clothing. Whether
dressed up or casually dressed, he was always matching from head to toe and adorned with his
jewelry.

Edward is survived by his children Edward Sonds Jr., Kim Sonds Hamilton, Paulette Sonds-
Muhammad, Leanea Sonds, his sons- in- law, Bobby Hamilton & Ali Muhammad, his sister Patricia
John, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three great great- grandchildren, the
Squires Family: Abe, Ruthie, Myra, Denise, Gerard, Rodney and a host of nieces, nephews and
relatives.

He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Sonds, his sisters Felicia Peggy Webster & Barbara Jones,
his brother Richard Webster, his brother-in-law Charles John, his grandson Eddie Haynes (Lil
Eddie, & Butch and Russell Squires. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
