Dorothy Mitchell Sandefur, the daughter of the late Edward Mitchell, Sr. and Mary J. Dunn Mitchell; born on February 9, 1924, slipped peacefully into her eternal slumber on February 19, 2018.
She grew up in Wake Forest, NC. At an early age, Dorothy joined Friendship Baptist Church. She graduated from W.E. DuBois High School and attended Hair Styling School in Raleigh, NC. Later, Dorothy moved to New York. After a few years, she opened her own Beauty Salon in Freeport, Long Island. Dorothy joined Shiloh Baptist Church. She met and married William Sandefur, who preceded her in death. The two moved to Amityville and she joined St. John Baptist Church, Copiague, NY, where she served as a faithful Deaconess until her health failed.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory-three sons; two daughters; two sisters; one brother; nine Grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Cousins and friends
