Crystal Vann Obituary

Crystal Nicole Vann was born on April 24th, 1986, to Christopher Vann and Sheila Bernice Vann, in Syosset, NY. She was the second of two children born to this union.

Crystal received her formal education in the North Babylon School District. She graduated with a Regents Diploma from North Babylon Senior High School in June of 2004. She continued her education at SUNY College at Old Westbury where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Education in May of 2009. She went on to receive her Master of Science in Literacy Education degree from Queens College, the City University of New York (CUNY) in May of 2013.

Crystal was born and raised in Holy Trinity Baptist Church in Amityville, New York where she was baptized on October 21, 1990. She became a member of the Sunbeam Choir, Junior Ushers, and the Youth Ministry. After she received her master’s degree, she became one of the staff leaders of the Youth Ministry. In October of 1996, the Wings of Faith became a ministry of Holy Trinity. Crystal was one of the original members and later became a member of the Women’s Praise Dance Ministry. After serving as a youth Sunday School teacher, in her adult years, Crystal served as a teacher for the Sunday School as well as Vacation Bible School. She served as one of the Assistant Church Clerks, and in October of 2018 she assumed the position of Church Secretary.

Crystal was employed by the North Babylon School District as a teacher (per diem) from September 2010 until her passing. Prior to that she taught Mathematics and Literacy from August 2010 until 2014 at the Huntington Learning Center in Bay Shore, NY. She also had her own private tutoring company, Academic Success Maker, with private sessions in reading, writing and test prep serving Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Crystal enjoyed reading, dancing, and working out with her sister online. She was organized, loved fine dining and traveling. She was an amazing friend and confidant that you could always count on. She enjoyed being social and hanging out with her family and friends. Grass could never grow between her toes; she was always on the go.

Crystal was loving, caring, selfless, giving, and compassionate. She touched so many lives. She devoted a lot of her time to children, whether it was educational or in fun. She would also visit and tend to the elderly, to sit and talk or to help by running errands.

Crystal made the best of every moment. No matter what life had in store for her, she always looked at the brighter side. If you ever saw her, come walking by, she had a big smile on her face. Despite everything, she always stayed positive without complaining.

Crystal was preceded in death by her mother, Sheila Vann; her grandfather, Bernard Harris; uncles, Harold, and Sidney Harris; aunt, Jacqueline Tutt; cousins, Leroy McFadden, Jahliel Harris and La’Kayla Robinson.
