Charles Vernon Powell, Jr.

On September 6, 2017 heaven’s angels summoned him, saying “Suffer no more. Come take your place and have Eternal Life”. And Charles Vernon Powell Jr. answered the call.

Charles was educated in the Copiague Public School system. He was a good student and made friends easily. In addition to a sharp intellect, Charles competed in track and field, excelling at the third leg of the 440. Charles also enjoyed music and loved to dance with his family and friends. Charles graduated form Copiague High School in 1963.

When the Vietnam War started, Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1964. He was stationed at Bien Hoa Air Base in Vietnam. Airman First Class Charles Vernon Powell, Jr. received an Honorable Discharge in 1968 and returned home to his loved ones.

Upon re-entering civilian life, Charles accepted a position at P.C. Richards as a sales associate. In 1975, Charles was offered a position at Central Federal Savings Bank in Mineola, N.Y. as a supervisor. When Central Federal Savings Bank merged with JPMorgan Chase in 1998, Charles became the supervisor of the Records Storage Team. In his final years, Charles worked briefly with The Urban League, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Charles was a trusted and valued employee, beloved by all who knew him.

Charles will be remembered always as a charismatic, honest and gentle man with dry wit and a warm heart. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him best, to include two sisters, one brother, two nieces, one nephew and a host of cherished cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends and colleagues.
