On May 2nd, 1955 at Lakeside Hospital in Copiague, New York William and Mary Ella Legette welcomed a baby boy, Charles Legette.
At a young age, Charles became a member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Copiague, NY, where he attended for many years. He was educated through the Amityville School System and took an interest in arts and crafts, music and sports; one of his favorite being Karate. Charles was very creative; he enjoyed building ships and stage coaches out of match sticks. He worked for the Albany Neck Halfway House as a counselor assisting people with various addictions. He helped them to overcome their issues and become more productive and positive with daily living skills.
During the 90’s, Charles was employed with the Estee Lauder Company as a materials handler and machine operator. He remained with the company until he was unable to work due to his illness. It was during this time Charles met the love of his life, Evonne Walker and after a brief courtship the two best friends were married on August 28, 2010. This love will continue on now and forever!
Charles was the assistant manager for, “The New Gospel Love Caravan”. He deeply loved playing his Bass Guitar, singing and writing his own songs for the group in which they performed at church programs and other functions.
Charles was a loving person; a gentle giant that was a constant helping hand to all of those around him. He cherished his family, especially his nieces and nephews that were close to him. Charles was warrior; a person with great heart, who fought a tough battle until he the very end. He will be missed by so many who knew and loved him.
Charles was preceded in death by his brother James A. Woodbury, Lavern Legette (Spook), Jimmie Legette, David Legette, Ronald Legette, sisters Diane Bledman and Maybelle Woodbury. Charles Leaves to Cherish his memory, His beloved wife Evonne Legette; Brothers William Legette (Elenor Legette), Harry Legette (Rochelle Legette), Sisters Shirley and Barbara Legette Brother in law Cecil Bledman and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
