Obituary
To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1
Every now and then, the master sends one of his special flowers to bloom among us. One of those rare flowers was named Cathryn Howard.
Cathryn was born February 15, 1960 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Levi Howard and Cornelia Rivers Howard- Singleton. She was the youngest of four children. In 1967, after the death of their father relocated to Wyandanch, New York.
Cathryn or as she was affectionately known as “Cathy”, attended Wyandanch schools and graduated from Wyandanch Jr-Sr. High School in 1977. Cathy continued her post graduate education at South Carolina State University, earning her Bachelors degree in Business Administration in 1981.
After graduating, Cathryn used those skills to teach business class in Hempstead, NY. She then changed career path and began working for the New York State Courts. She worked in various locations; but spent the majority of her career at Queens Family Court in Jamaica NY, which she loved and was her apparent calling. Cathy worked for the State Courts for over 30 years until her untimely death on September 13, 2019.
Cathy was a free spirit, adventurous, and fun loving. She enjoyed traveling and was especially pleased to have visited her family in Sumter, South Carolina, and friends. She was a strong, selfless, dependable, loved by many and was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend especially to her nephew Shaun and two nieces Kayla and Brittany. She was known to be our family historian, therefore, when we all needed information on our family history, she was the person to contact and she was our good luck charm.
She was preceded in death by her Father Levi and Mother Cornelia her brother Bryant and her sister Barbara.
She is survived by her brother Gregory, one nephew, two nieces, two uncles, five aunts, one brother-in-law, an adopted sister along with a host of cousins, friends, and co-workers.
