Bruce Aiken Obituary

Bruce was born on May 10, 1961 to Louise and Robert Aiken Sr., in East Meadow, New York. He was the eighth child of Louise and Robert’s sixteen children. George, Brenda, Bruce, Vernell, Diane, Robert, Jr., Daisy, John A., Tyrone, Timothy, Rosemary, Charlene, Anthony, Marion, Jermaine and Chastity. Bruce was baptized at Holy Trinity Baptist Church in 1975 under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Spurgeon E. Crayton at the age of 14. After graduating from Copiague High School in 1979, he entered the Armed Forces at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Bruce has served in the Army for four years stationed in Ft. Gordon, Georgia and in Munich, Germany. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked in food service and retail for more than 40 years.

Bruce was a dedicated and faithful member of Holy Trinity Baptist Church. He served on the men’s choir, bereavement ministry, and the Seasoned/All Saints Saturday Bible Study. Helping people was very important to Bruce. He was a licensed Notary Public and in 2015, he returned to Suffolk Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Psychology. This was an important milestone for Bruce, and another opportunity for him to give back to his community. Bruce retired in 2023 and enjoyed taking walks, riding his bike, and cooking.

Bruce was preceded in death by Louise Aiken, Robert Aiken, George Aiken, Brenda Aiken, Maurice Aiken, Darrel Thompson, and Greg Latimore. He leaves to cherish his memory, Vernell (Michael) Guidroz, Diane Aiken, Robert (Roberta) Aiken, Jr., Daisy (Greg) Latimore, John Aiken, Tyrone Aiken and Dennis Brown, Timothy (Penny) Aiken, Rosemary (Jake) Anderson, Charlene (Marlon) Coward, Sr., Anthony (Danielle) Aiken, Marion (Steven) Floyd, Jermaine Aiken, Chastity Aiken, Steven (Myisha) Harrell; Special cousins Mrs. Brenda Foster, Valerie Jackson and a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bruce will be Greatly Missed. He was a straightforward guy who spoke his mind! He loved everybody and always had a smile on his face. He was the life of every party and gathering, and as Bruce would always say, "GOD Bless His Kingdom and His Creation, and the Holy Spirit Within, in Jesus Name I Pray Amen.”
