Obituary

Beverley D. Mattison

July 23, 1953 – April 30, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Beverley Daunalissa Mattison announces her passing , on Monday April 30, 2018 at the age of 64 years. She was born of a proud mother, Muriel Mattison, the eldest of eight children in the community of Farm Pen, Gayle, St Mary, Jamaica.

Auntie Bev, as she was affectionately called, spent her early years with her grandmother, Beatrice, in St. Mary. She attended Mount Angus Junior High until the age of twelve. After the passing of her grandmother, Auntie Bev went to live with her parents Leslie and Muriel Pennant in Kingston. While in Kingston, Auntie Bev attended Elletson School. After leaving Elletson School she enrolled in a secretarial school where she studied typing and shorthand. Auntie Bev was fortunate to gain employment as a bookkeeper with Track Price Plus at a very young age, during those years she attended the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Kingston, Jamaica.

In the late 80's, I remember when Auntie Bev went to The National Arena to apply for a house we did not see or hear from her in two days and remember there was no cellphone during that time. As kids we cried for our mother not knowing if anything had happened to her. She finally came home with no shoes on her foot, her clothes dirty and tattered and would you believe she never got the house. But that just shows you the type of mother Auntie Bev was, she would go the end of the earth and back to provide for her family. Later on that year she was blessed with owning her first home at Lot 594 4 East Greater Portmore, St. Catherine.

While residing in Greater Portmore, Auntie Bev became a faithful member of The Portmore New Testiment Church of God, where she got baptized in her faith. Auntie Bev was a dedicated member of the church for over 14 years and was an active member of the prayer and fasting group.

Auntie Bev touched many lives and was a consummate caregiver, as a mother she knew how to divide her love amongst all her children and they still had all her complete love. She cared for her siblings, nieces, nephews and folks in the community as her own. She loved to cook, Auntie Bev knew how to make a mean pot of oxtail, red peas soup, stewed peas and don’t forget wicked curried goat. So with that being said it became a tradition for her cook Christmas dinner for all her family and close friends. This is something they looked forward to all year long.

Auntie Bev passed away on April 30, 2018. She will be lovingly remembered by: three daughters, Dahlia (Carla), Narina (Dawn) and Ingrid; nine grandchildren, AJ, Malcolm, Ebony, Terriq, Darren, Dimetrius, Nadya, Niko, Keona; four sisters, Catherine, Marcia, Lorna, Marie, Ann; two brothers, Eddie and Albert; seven nieces, Mitzie, Barbara, Seimmone, Sandi, Sancha, Jodie, Rowanne; five nephew, Kevin, Derone, Clifton, Aurain, Shaun ; three grandnieces; nine grandnephews; one brother-in-law; Neville; one uncle; Martin; one son-in- law; Aaron and other relatives and friends.

Auntie Bev was preceded in death by her parents and two nephews, Dane and Lorenzo.

May her soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon her.
