Obituary
Ananias B. Spruill was born on August 19, 1931 in Roper, North Carolina to the
late Elder James Spruill and 1st Lady Minnie Mae Spruill. Ananias attended J.J.
Clemmons High School in Roper, NC upon graduation he studied at Atlanta A&T
College. He ultimately received an Associates Degree in Tailoring & Upholstery.
Soon after college graduation he was drafted into the Army and fought in the
Korean War. He demonstrated bravery and selflessness and was promoted to the
rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service
Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the OCC Medal (Japa).
Even while serving his tour of duty constantly under the threat of death he never
forgot his home. He sent his army wages back to help his father with his church.
Also he remembered his childhood sweetheart, Edna and kept in contact with her
regularly.
He married Edna on August 15, 1959. His father Elder James Spruill officiated
the service. To this union two children were born, Gloria and Eugene. Ananias
eventually settled his family in Albany, NY.
After pursuing his tailoring career for a number of years, he sought and gained
employment with the US Postal Service. He retired from the Post Office after
working diligently for thirty years.
Ananias was taken to LI Jewish Hospital in June of 2018,suffering with an illness
for some years. On July 4, 2018 Apostle D.F. Allen and 1st Lady Allen visited him
and prayed with him. He joyously accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on that
day. He went on to depart this life the next day July 5, 2018.
Ananias B. Spruill was a strong, determined and loving example of a good
husband, father, son, sibling, uncle and friend. His stability and sense of order
lives on in us today.
He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Gallimore of Long Island; his sisters,
Elizabeth Blount of Raliegh, NC and Margaret O. Downing of Williamston, NC;
his grandchildren, Erica, Esther, Elisa, Errol Jr., Eva, Evelynne, Elijah and
Evangelene Gallimore; one great grandchild, Micah Marvek; and a host of nieces,
nephews and relatives.
Ananias is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Spruill, his son, Eugne Spruill,
brothers, Erving, Esau and Joseph Spruill, two brothers-in-law and grandson,
Emanuel Gallimore.
