The Obituary
On Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in the stillness of the evening, at
home, Lawrence left this earthly home at 10:00 p.m. and went to
meet his creator.
Lawrence Norman Sinkler, Sr. was born on September 20, 1951 in
Somerset, New Jersey to the late Mary Julia Floria.
He was educated in the Queens, NY public school system. It was
during these early years that he formed a friendship with the man
who would become his lifelong friend, Albert “Abby” Lucas, and
where he met the love of his life, Maureen Carole Sinkler, whom he
later married and from this union they were blessed with four
children.
After high school, Lawrence attended Oneonta College and
graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a minor in
English. Lawrence was passionate about education and wanted to
become a teacher, but due to the fiscal crisis in the early 70s, he was
discouraged from pursuing his original goal in the education field
and joined Verizon as a Framework Specialist, where he worked for
many years.
Lawrence never lost his desire to pursue a career in teaching
and working with children. When he retired from Verizon he
worked as a Paraprofessional with special needs kids at Brentwood
High School. Lawrence was very young at heart and loved to be
around children—always laughing and playing with all children,
especially his grandkids. It was rare that he didn’t have a smile on
his face.
Lawrence had many hobbies and interests, but he especially
enjoyed listening to Jazz, watching the Yankees and Giants,
coloring, and growing Bonsai trees.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his daughter Corie, brother
Clifford A. Sinkler, sister Kimberly W. Floria, his mother Mary Julia
Floria, and his grandmother Arabell Sinkler.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories: his beloved wife of
47 years, Maureen C. Sinkler; three children, Lawrence N. Sinkler,
Jr. (Chinita) of Gaithersburg, MD, Randy C. Sinkler (Josie) of
Farmingville, NY, and Luke C. Sinkler (Helany) of Baltimore, MD;
eight grandchildren, Kayla, Nyah, Kirsten, Randy Jr., Luke Jr.,
Lawrence III, Madison, and Parker; one sister Stefanne Davenport
(Tony) of Pleasantville, NJ; 3 sisters-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law; a
mother-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.
We love you too much
