Julia Mae Rose was born in Alabama on January 23, 1944 to Moselle and Monroe Rose. At the age of 18 Julia left Alabama to move with her older sister who lived in Amityville, NY. She then attended nursing school.

She met and married Larry Lorenzo Colon and started a family. Julia leaves behind her children- Brenda Colon, Larry Colon, Kisla Colon, Larry Colon Jr. and Luis Colon. Her husband Lorenzo and her daughter Elke predeceased her.

Later on she married Larry Horton.

Julia worked for Judge Saxon of Amityville and took care of him and his wife ubtil their passing at which time she retired to enjoy her family.

Julia loved fishing, crabbing and also enjoyed boat rides.

She served God and was a long-time active member of Grace Community Church under the spiritual leadership of Overseer Robert L. Burgess and Pastor Alexia Burgess Huart, where she was lovingly known as Mother Horton. She served as a Missionary for many years. She truly loved the Lord.
