In the 1990s, Ernestine was invited to join a service at New Hope Institutional Baptist Church (Amityville), which later became her church home until she fell ill. She was a very active member in the church wearing several hats in ministry and enjoying serving. She sang in the choir, served as the president and treasurer of the Usher Board. She loved her work at the church.
